Principal’s Message….

Kia ora kotou,
At last the weather is starting to make us feel like summer, and there is a buzz of excitement as we make our way into week 5. It is awesome to see the progress of our pool upgrade, we are waiting for a couple of days of golden weather to complete the lining and lay concrete. On December the first we will be having the official pool opening in conjunction with our Enviroschools visit as we hope to attain our Silver Status. We would like to extend an invitation to  all our families to come along and join us for this, the timings will be advised beforehand.
Shortly we will have sample sizes for our new uniform for students to try, the website will be up and running by week 8 for orders to be made. NZ Uniforms have a ‘Uniform Club’ which enables an automatic payment to be made regularly to build up over the course of the year and create a store credit. It’s amazing how a small amount can add up at the end of the year as we know uniforms can be costly. We believe our uniforms will be affordable and well made to last, our emblems will be embroidered and all items will either have our logo or school name. We are happy for families to continue to wear the current navy blue skorts, shorts, fleeces and jersey’s next year with the new polo shirt to keep costs down.
Nga mihi,
Gene Moore

Introducing Meg Excell our new teacher for 2022

Kia ora koutou, My name is Meg Excell and I am excited to begin my teaching career and be a part of the Pirinoa community. I have spent most of my life living in Wellington, but was born and raised till 8 years old in Southland, Te Anau. After high school I studied Science, Majoring in Human Nutrition at Massey University in Palmerston North and graduated in 2018. I enjoy being outdoors, skiing, cooking, gardening, taking long walks with my dog Murphy, and spending time with my friends and family.

Room 1 News

Room 1 are studying structures. This week we learnt about castles, ligthouses and igloos.

We have a constructed a model of a castle in Room 1.

Room 2 News

This term, the whole school inquiry is on ‘structures’. Last week, Room 2 brainstormed all the different kinds of structures we could think of. Then we made the most of this week’s House of Science kit to take a look at the structure of a flower. Next week, we’ll be looking at the structure of DNA. While learning about different structures, we’ll also be learning how to draw an annotated diagram.

Room 3 News

Room 3 is busy with end of the year testing. We’ve started our Structures unit with a study on Cape Pallier Lighthouse. We learnt how to draw an annotated diagram and made a 3D model of the lighthouse using papier-mache. We are going to start creating a 3D model for our indepedent inquiries and can’t wait to share them with you.
