Principal’s Message….

First up some announcements for staffing for next year. We’re very happy to announce that Jocelyn Kebbell will be joining us next year in Room One two days a week. This means that Jocelyn will be joining Sissy to run the important programme in that classroom.

This means that I will be released to concentrate on principal’s duties in what is shaping up to be a busy year with a potential classroom upgrade, lots of development of our outdoor learning spaces, a brand new curriculum area (Aotearoa New Zealand Histories). Thanks to the Pirinoa Board of Trustees for supporting me to ease back on my teaching load for 2023.

We can also confirm Jazz Te Whare steps up to become our permanent Teacher Aide. Jazz has quickly become an integral part of the team and she does fantastic work with our kids.

Hot off the press is the very successful trip up to spend the day at Kohunui Marae. Many families, of course, already have a strong connection with the marae but for some students, they had never been there and for many they hadn’t been there for quite a while. The programme was outstanding, with our tamariki getting a taster of many different aspects of Te Āo Māori including the pōwhiri process itself, mau rakau, harakeke weaving, stories of the area and much more.

Huge thanks to the rōpu up at the marae for looking after us and planning such a great day. And thanks go to Vanessa Tipoki who led us on with the karanga and Luke Tipoki who represented us with a whaikōrero. Special thanks to Lee Flutey at Kohunui for arranging everything.
